Candidate Selection

Happy New Year! As we begin this new season together, we are pleased to share exciting news about our ongoing search for a new rector.

Our parish profile has just been officially posted on the Episcopal News Service (ENS) website, a national clearinghouse for all things Episcopal and a key resource where priests from across the country explore future ministry opportunities. Along with the profile, the following introduction to St. Philip’s is now live:

At St. Philip’s, we strive to be a welcoming and inclusive community where all can explore a deeper relationship with God, self, and others. Since 1881, our parish has grown alongside the Uvalde community, becoming a place of beauty, spiritual growth, friendship, and service. Guided by faith and love, St. Philip’s continues to live into its mission as “the church that helps others,” serving both our members and our neighbors with compassion and grace. We are a faithful and caring congregation that values our Episcopal tradition while embracing opportunities for growth and renewal. Through worship, education, fellowship, and outreach, we seek to share God’s love in all that we do—nurturing faith within our parish family and extending hospitality to all who enter our doors. Together, we strive to be a living expression of Christ’s presence in Uvalde and beyond. We invite you to take a look at our profile…we look forward to meeting you!

This information will remain on the ENS website for the next 30 days, giving interested clergy time to review our profile and learn more about St. Philip’s. Fr. Mike Besson is serving as the point of contact, and through ENS and other resources, we will be collecting names of potential rector candidates.

Meanwhile, the Rector Search Committee is actively working on developing interview questions that will guide our discernment process. Our goal is to compile a list of potential candidates by the end of February. At that point, we will begin the interview phase, which will include both Zoom interviews and on-site visits.

Thank you for your continued prayers, patience, and support as we move forward in this important and hopeful journey. We trust that God is guiding us and look forward to what lies ahead for St. Philip’s. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any member of the search committee.
