How will you serve at St. Philip’s?
Each Sunday we need approximately fifteen people to help serve at our two services. This does not include those in the choir, the altar guild, or the vestry person of the month.
Here is how our monthly scheduling works. An e-mail form goes out to all servers around the 15th of each month asking you to let us know your availability for the upcoming month. It’s a simple form that can be completed online and returned with a click. The form is sent to a list of about 40+ who have already agreed to serve as either an acolyte, lector, prayers of the people, chalice bearer, greeters/ushers.
In the last several months, the job of scheduling has become increasingly more difficult for several reasons.
- We try not to schedule people we have not heard from as that can lead to scrambling on Sunday mornings to fill spots when they don’t show up.
- We try not to schedule people to serve for more than two Sundays a month (if we can), even if they may have indicated that they are available on multiple Sundays of the month. We want everyone to have time to worship with their families and friends.
- This is often more difficult when there are five Sundays in one month.
The October schedule was sent with about fifteen blanks to be filled by servers. We have heard from a few who have offered to fill the blanks in the schedule, and we are grateful, but we are still in need of servers on the 15th, 22nd and 29th.
