KABOOM! Playground Design Day

St. Philip’s Episcopal School is getting a new playground! Thanks to the generous work of KABOOM! and the gracious funding from The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country Uvalde Forever Fund, the elementary campus at SPES will be getting a new playground this spring! You get a say in what elements are included so come help us design the playground. The students of SPES will have a chance earlier in the day to draw their dream playground from 1-2 pm. Children of all church members are invited to participate.

The Adults’ Meeting (2:30 – 4 pm) will kick off the KABOOM! planning process by introducing the playspace build model and identifying volunteers who can take on leadership roles. This leadership team will develop ideas and action steps to ensure a successful project. We’re looking for individuals who can commit to weekly one-hour planning calls over the next several weeks and lead in the following areas:

• Site Features & Facilities: Utilities knowledge, tool acquisition, delivery & construction logistics
• Community Outreach: Volunteer Recruitment
• Food/Meal Planning: Prep Day 1 & 2 Meals, Build Day Meal
• Event Logistics: Flow of the day, parking, registration, PA System, tables, chairs, restrooms etc.

We’ll also review the ideas generated by our “kid experts” and select playground equipment for the final design.

KABOOM! came to Uvalde in 2022 with the mission to help the community heal through play. They have build new playgrounds and several public parks and UCISD campuses. 

The Uvalde Forever Fund was established by The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to support organizations helping the community heal.
