Children’s Bereavement Center Updates

Additional Space, New Programs = Increased Opportunities for Uvalde Children

FINDING FORTITUDE FOR THE FUTURE
Following a very generous donation from a local community member, The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas – Uvalde, will begin an after-school program, “Finding Fortitude for the Future” for students in the 6th and 7th grades. This new program will provide grief and trauma group counseling which might be necessary as the result of a death loss; guidance on how to build or rebuild relationships with family, friends and people in the community following a loss; and using the expressive arts to create an engaging piece of work that illustrates their story of how they healed from their grief journey. Once a month, family dinners will be provided so that the students can share their experiences while in the program.

The “Finding Fortitude for the Future”  program will begin September 30, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons weekly through the 2024-25 academic year. Classes will be held at Briscoe Hall in St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. There will be team-building exercises fashioned after low ropes elements, educational exercises to expand the academic instruction the students will receive at school, and various artistic endeavors including art, music, and literature.

If you know of someone who has a student in the 6th or 7th grade who might be interested in participating in this program, please have them contact The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas – Uvalde at 830-333-9833 or email Brenda Faulkner at bfaulkner@cbcst.org. As with all services at the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas – Uvalde, the program will be free to the participants. Registration and intake are required by caregivers to participate which only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

DEDICATION OF THE MAKERSPACE
Through the generosity of some of some amazing supporters, paint your own pottery business owners, and the Skutt kiln manufacturer, the Uvalde Children’s Bereavement Center is the proud owner of a Skutt 1227 Kiln.

On Monday, the new Makerspace which houses the new kiln as well as other art related equipment was blessed and celebrated. We are grateful for all who were instrumental in creating this new space and new equipment that will provide additional art opportunities to aid in the healing of the children in our community. However, there are still a few items they need before they can get started. If you would like to purchase some of the items needed for the kiln operation you can click here for the CBC  wishlist.

If you missed the blessing of the Makerspace you can watch and follow along here.
