St. Philip’s Episcopal School is getting a new playground! Thanks to the generous work of KABOOM! and the gracious funding from The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country Uvalde Forever Fund, the elementary campus at SPES will be getting a new playground this spring!

Resister HERE!! Please note, registration is a 2-step process. You will be prompted to create a profile with Kaboom, then register for the SPES build weekend. If you have already created a profile from a previous Kaboom event, log in to your account and register for the SPES build.

Who: A total of approximately 50 volunteers from the St. Philip’s Church and School, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, members of the greater Uvalde Community and KABOOM!
Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability.
**Please note – All youth under the legal working age for this state will be welcome to participate in youth activities but will not be able to participate in building in the construction areas.**

What’s Provided: Breakfast, lunch and water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them. All volunteers will receive a T-shirt to wear during the project. The Children’s Bereavement Center staff will provide child care and activities for children of all ages.

What to Wear: The playground build will happen rain or shine. Please come dressed for the weather. Closed-toe shoes are required; sneakers or work boots that you don’t mind getting dirty are advisable. Please leave valuables at home as secure storage is not available on site.

Build Site Rules: All participants must comply with the following practices. These rules have been established and agreed upon to ensure the safety, comfort and respect for all involved. Failure to comply will result in immediate dismissal from the project.
• Work together, treat everyone with respect and use family-friendly, inclusive language
• Report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior to on-site staff
• Please comply with all requests from on-site staff
• Follow all safety guidelines
• Only pre-approved power tools are permitted
• Closed-toe shoes are required
• Youth may not participate in areas of active construction
• No smoking, alcohol or drugs
• The use or carry of firearms is prohibited *with the exception of certified, active officers

Build Week Schedule
Build Week will run from Thursday, April 30 – Saturday, May 2. Each date will have the following schedule:

Prep Day 1:  Thursday, April 30th, 2026
20 volunteers are needed.
• 8:30 AM – Volunteers arrive and check-in
• 3:30 PM – All prep work completed (approximate time)

Prep Day 2: Friday, May 1, 2026
20 volunteers are needed.
•  8:30 AM – Volunteers arrive and check-in
• 3:30 PM – All prep work completed (approximate time)

Build Day: Saturday, May 2, 2026
50 volunteers are needed.
• 8:00 AM – Volunteers arrive and check-in
• 8:30 AM – Kick-Off Ceremony
• 2:30 PM – Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony:
Construction Week will culminate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a job. This ceremony will take place on May 2nd 2026, 2:30 PM and will last approximately 20 minutes. Ribbon cutting time may be subject to change based on project completion.

 

KABOOM! came to Uvalde in 2022 with the mission to help the community heal through play. They have built new playgrounds at several public parks and UCISD campuses. 

The Uvalde Forever Fund was established by The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to support organizations helping the community heal.
